How to Build Confidence in English Speaking
Many learners struggle to find a clear path to fluency. The internet is full of complex advice, and it’s easy to feel lost or overwhelmed. But don’t worry! This blog post shares a simple 3-step method you can start using today to become a more confident English speaker.
This method is called the Speaking Success System, and it’s used in many of my courses, including the popular IELTS Speaking Gold course. Best of all—it’s now simpler and easier to follow than ever before.

Step 1: Discover – Learn English in Context
The first step in learning new language is to find it. This means reading, listening, or both. I call this step “discover” because learning is like an adventure—you need curiosity!
When you discover language in context, it becomes easier to understand and remember. You see how it works and how to use it.
You can discover language in many places, such as,
- Model answers for IELTS Speaking
- Stories or listening activities

Step 2: Practice – Speak English Every Day
To become confident, you must speak. Practice is key.
Many students learn grammar and vocabulary but still can’t speak. Why? Because they don’t practice speaking enough.
How to practice:
- Repeat words and phrases
- Change one word in a sentence
- Change many words to create new sentences
- Join speaking rooms or conversation clubs
Start with controlled practice and move to more free speaking.

Step 3: Review – Strengthen Your Memory
According to the Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve we forget 70% of what we learn within 24 hours—unless we review!
That is what makes this step so important, but it is a step often forgotten by many!
Ways to review:
- Re-read the same texts
- Re-watch videos
- Review your notes
But to really learn deeply, you should also:
- See the same language in new contexts
- Watch or read different things on the same topic
- Use AI tools to create practice materials
- Do quizzes, listen to podcasts, and join speaking rooms again
Even writing or speaking can be part of your review!
Your Action Plan for English Fluency
Now you know the system:
- Discover
- Practice
- Review
Check your recent study activities:
- Can you match them to these steps?
- Are you missing a step? Add it!
Keep following this cycle, and you will become a confident English speaker.
