These IELTS Speaking Practice tests will help you prepare for the test and build your confidence to perform well in the actual test. In the IELTS Speaking test, you will have an interview with a real life examiner.

The test last 11 – 14 minutes and is divided into 3 parts.

Part 1 : You answer questions about you and your everyday life

Part 2: You speak about a topic for 1 – 2 minutes

Part 3: You will have a longer discussion about the Part 2 topic.

Preparing for the IELTS Speaking Test

If you only had 15 minutes to prepare for the IELTS Speaking Test, I would say the best thing you can do, is to do an IELTS Speaking Practice tests, like the ones at the bottom of this page.

To prepare for IELTS Speaking, you should get familiar with the topics and kinds of questions you will be asked in the test.

What’s more, you should practice speaking out your answers to those questions.

I do not recommend writing out your answer, and then reading it out, or memorising it and then reciting it from memory.

That won’t work, and you will get a low score, because you need to speak natural, conversational English in the IELTS Speaking test.

To help you prepare, I have made a series of videos where I act as your examiner.

You can watch and then practice responding to my questions.

This has several benefits. It will

  • make you think quickly
  • build your flexibility and fluency
  • get you used to the timing of the test
  • get you familiar with the test format
  • build your confidence

How to Practice

The tests below are titled by the common IELTS Speaking topics, and use the kind of questions you may get in the test.

Some of them just give Part 1 questions, others give Part 2 questions, and others give the whole test, including Part 3 questions.

Here’s how to practice:

  • Choose a topic
  • Watch the video without stopping
  • Speak out your answers
  • Have a pen and paper ready to make notes in Part 2.

  1. Thank you Mr Keith for all your help. I learnt how to be confident in speaking English on this platform. Thank you I managed to pass my English test

  2. Hi sir
I am a student from India
Is it possible for you to conduct my interview and share my band scores as well as give me a feedback

  3. Hi sir
Why some of your topics, such as weather don’t exist in pdf form? Since I’m busy, reading files suits me.

    1. I actually start doing the PDFs some time after starting live lessons, so some of the early lessons don’t have PDFs yet. I am working on updating some of the older lessons to add PDFs. Keep an eye on the ‘live lesson’ page for them in future.

  4. Hello Keith, I have been following your lectures for weeks. I had a predictive test and the examiner gave me a band score of 7; but every time I take my mock exam for speaking I only get around a 6.5. Hoping for any advice from you in order to get a band 7 and above.
My exam is coming up in a few weeks.

    1. Well, there are lots of tips in this website for different parts of the test, but if you can get someone to give you feedback on your mock test, then you will know better where to focus in the coming weeks. Maybe try a teacher on http://www.italki.com to give you a mock test + feedback?

  5. Sir, I want to some guidance about how may i boost level of speaking module. Because I can not get higher score of 7.0 in speaking. So please give advice which take me upto higher level.

    1. Very hard to say, because I don’t know your present level, not your strengths and weaknesses. So actually my advice is you find a teacher to give you a mock test and then give your personalised plan on where to focus. Overall, most students need to focus mostly on just improving their general speaking skills, and maybe about 20% of their time of exam technique. In this case, a structured course can always help (face to face or online).

  6. Hi Keith,

I have my test in 30days, I’m not sure from where to start ,especially in Speaking. Could you please share your thoughts on this or if you can provide any plan for this that will help me a lot.

    Thanks,
    Allena

    1. If you have 30 days, I would sign up to my course IELTS Speaking Success – Get a Band 7+. That is the best choice. This is a full course that would give you not only strategies and tips for the test, but also lots of useful language and Part 1,2 and 3 question practice.
If that is not possible, I would spend one week learning about test evaluation and working on Part 1 (see ‘part 1’ on my webpage and study that: https://keithspeakingacademy.com/ielts-speaking-part-1/), then week 2 on Part 2 (again see my website) and week 3 on part 3. Finally in week four do lots of mock test practice (materials here: https://keithspeakingacademy.com/ielts-speaking-practice-tests/). Hope this helps. Keith

  7. Hi Keith, I’m thinking about giving IELTS but I haven’t formally prepared for it. I have good proficiency in English and I don’t really struggle with fluency but i feel like i speak a bit fast and i use very normal vocabulary nothing fancy. So would that affect my score a lot and what do you recommend should I prepare for the exam instead of just going for it?

    1. It’s quite hard to say without listening to you speak, but speaking naturally (rather than lots of ‘fancy’ vocabulary) is good.
You need to show a wide range of vocabulary, but it doesn’t always have to be ‘fancy’.
Many people often confuse fancy with formal academic language; for IELTS Speaking you want natural spoken language, not academic English.
For speed, do some practice (like on this page) but pay special attention to speaking more slowly. Maybe record yourself to check.
      Good luck!

    1. day 1 – review Part 1 tips and videos on this website.
      day 2 – review Part 2 …
      day 3 – review Part 3 ….
day 4 do some Practice Tests (as on this page)
day 5 watch and practice connectors/fillers video and how to introduce yourself video.
Also do 30 minutes each day speaking practice.
      Hope this helps!
